Spanish Blackjack Still Going for Twenty One
Spanish Blackjack, also known as Spanish 21, is a very popular variant of the classic blackjack game. This variation of blackjack strives to offer the player a great deal of options in his favor while obtaining the primary house advantage thanks to the fact that a different card deck is used from the standard 52 card blackjack deck. In the Spanish blackjack deck there are only 48 cards. This is because all four of the tens have been removed from the deck. This makes it somewhat more difficult to score a natural twenty one. Despite this difference, the game runs along the same rules as classic blackjack and the card values are still the same. The goal is still to try and get as close to twenty one as possible.
Rules of Note in Spanish Blackjack
Although particular rules vary from casino to casino, the removal of the four tens grants the casino an initial 2% advantage. This gives the casino a lot of leeway in offering all sorts of rules that favor the player. Thus in most instances doubling and redoubling are permitted. This is one example where a skillful player can obtain a significant advantage. Another example is that a total of twenty one by the player always wins against the dealer, even if the dealer is also holding twenty one. Various winning combinations are possible in Spanish Blackjack that are not generally available in similar blackjack games. These include winning with a five card 21, a six card 21 and even a seven card 21. These generally win the player higher winning stakes up to 3:1 on the seven card win. There are also occasionally bonus wins such as a 1000$ bonus for wagers below 25$ and 5000$ for above 25$ for winning on a hand of three sevens (which total twenty one). This is known as a super bonus.
Card Counting
Card counting is considered to be much less of a threat at Spanish 21. Consequently, casinos are much more liberal at this game and this leaves room for all sorts of strategies that can improve the players play if he is wise enough to take advantage of them.
