Basic Card Counting in Blackjack

Card counting is a blackjack strategy that was developed to determine if and when a player has more of an advantage at any stage of the game. Card counting tracks the ratio of high numbered cards to low numbered cards in a game, no matter how many decks are being played. There are some wide and varied methods of card counting but one of the most favored and simple to understand is the basic hi-low method. The Hi-Low Blackjack Strategy

The Hi-Low method of card counting is very simple. Each card is assigned a number, a +1, -1 or zero. Numbers 2-6 are considered to be +1, 7, 8 and 9 are zero, 10 and all the face cards and the Aces are +1. As you proceed through the game, for every card that is drawn you total up the assigned values. A good game is when you are on the positive side of the numbers indicating that you are using more high cards than low cards. The hi-low method is only one of many different card counting methods that can be used, others assign different numbers to each card value and the work out the odds based on the totaled value that you have.

Card counting is not the only method that can be used to help a player win. Other blackjack systems include looking at how the cards are shuffled and the number of decks involved in a game. Look at the payout charts and history of the game you are playing, try and decipher if there is a pattern to the game. Of course it is random but even randomness has a pattern.
