Blackjack Hall of Fame

In the winter of 2002 a group of 100 of the top professional Blackjack players in the world convened together at a conference to vote for who they considered to be the top Blackjack players of the world.

Recognition of Achievement in the World of Blackjack

Initially there were only 7 members of the Blackjack Hall of Fame voted in by professional players who understand what it is to be an accomplished Blackjack player. The votes were based on creativity in playing, using systems and strategies that proved themselves to work. Often it takes a lot of courage, commitment and endurance to stay in a game of Blackjack and sit it out until the big wins come in. These initial 7 players who were inducted into the Blackjack Hall of Fame were all big winners at Blackjack, who had drive and dedication to the game and could overcome any hurdles that were put in their way.

The Seven Original Blackjack Hall of Fame Inductees

The initial 7 inductees to the Hall of Fame were Al Francesco, Tommy Hyland, Arnold Snyder, Edward O Thorp, Ken Uston and Stanford Wong. Each one was considered a leader in the art of playing Blackjack. Al Francesco was noted for his respect of the game and introducing the idea of team play which would frustrate the casinos for many years to come. Tommy Hyland was an early starter and in his college years gained a reputation for his Ace team playing. He is well known for fighting for the rights of players.

Helpful Blackjack Literature

Arnold Snyder and Edward O Thorp have both written many advisory books on the best way to beat the casino and win at Blackjack games; they use complicated formulae and probability charts to arrive at their conclusions. Thorp is also known as the father of modern day card counting from his book in the early 1960's, "Beat the Dealer" which deals with card counting.

Profitable Wins at Blackjack

Ken Uston and Stanford Wong are better known for their big wins. They have been banned from many casinos after having cleaned them out. But each of their legal methods was ingenious to be able to outsmart the casinos whether it was card counting, hole card technique and other mathematical calculations that they did. Ken Uston was the top Blackjack casino player for over 20 years. Both men have written many books giving advice on how best to play and what methods to use.

Additional Blackjack Hall of Fame Members

Since 2002, more players have been added to the Blackjack Hall of Fame, all voted in by other professional players. Voting is topped up by regular players who can vote for up to one month through the internet before the final call which takes place every year at the Blackjack Ball. It is a true honor to be part of the Blackjack Hall of Fame; it is recognition of skill and prowess and shows a full understanding of the game of Blackjack. The next time you play blackjack online, pause for a moment and think about these great pioneers who have added so much to the game you love.
